Good news! On Saturday, July 30, President Bush signed H.R. 5501 making the 5-year reauthorization of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) law. The compromise Bill increases the amount of funding available from the U.S. for AIDS alleviation programs from $15 to $48 billion over the next five years. CRWRC has supported passage of the Bill through the AERDO HIV/AIDS Alliance (AHA). CRWRC is one of nine AERDO members who receive PEPFAR grants. CRWRC receives nearly $7 million of the member agency's $39 million for faith-based AIDS response and programming for orphans and vulnuerable children in developing countries. The Embrace AIDS Campaign seeks to raise $3 in two years for AIDS response. These new funds will help CRWRC maintain its current programming levels despite rising food and oil pressures and availability limits.
