Information

Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is modern-day slavery. Victims are forced, defrauded or coerced into labor or sexual exploitation. Annually, 600,000 to 800,000 people—mostly women and children—are trafficked across borders, millions within their own countries.

Has anyone seen Call + Response? I am thinking of showing it to a group of foster parents for our Refugee Foster Care Program but I haven't had a chance to see it yet myself. I would love to know what people thought.

I have exprience and connections with The Well--they are pretty sound. Also, check out http://www.nightlightbangkok.com/index.htm. A good film about trafficking is "Trade" . If you want to learn more about the issue, check out http://www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/tiprpt/2008/, it is the Trafficking in Persons Report for 2008, by the Department of State. Other websites:
http://www.humantrafficking.org/
notforsalecampaing.org (they have a tremendous book with a lot of information "Not For Sale")
The Polaris Project has a nice section on their site, Learn about Human Trafficking.

Trafficking generates billions of dollars each year--the fastest growin criminal industry around the world.
It is estiamted that 17,000 people are trafficked into the US each year for slavery intended purposes.

Hi csieverts, there are no materials for education that I know of on this issue. Some of us are trying to rectify that, but there are some other Christian resources. A friend of mine works with a group that helps the "bar girls" of Thailand learn about Christ and trains them in some marketable skills. It's called The Well and I'm sure they'd be able to help you. Welcome.

What materials does the CRC have for promoting and educating our congregations on this issue? And given how large a role the sex trade plays in this issue, I want to be sensitive about what age groups are exposed to what information. Thanks

I just added a blog post about the trafficking situation in Romania. I'm really interested in becoming more involved in this issue.

Anyone seen this / heard of it?

"The Fields of Mudan"
This award-winning film follows the heartbreaking story of a young Chinese girl named Mudan, who is unsuspectingly thrown into a life of child prostitution and modern day slavery. As she pieces together this new reality, her only hope is the dream of a new life in America with her mother.

This film is an excellent tool to generate awareness, look at the underlying causes of this modern day problem and learn more about how to get involved in the solutions.

Help !!

I am unfamiliar with this topic and particularly the Canadian version of this issue.
Is there some information out there that might bring some light to this?

Dirk
