Sorry for my absense, it's not that I didn't want to respond to these, but that we had a baby girl!!! Exciting! Phoebe Johanna was born last Wednesday and mom, baby and sister are all healthy and adjusting well. Praise God! About the Transparency ...

Frustratingly, I had the same problem!!!! I was all set, had an hour drive home from a training I was giving and had my headset in so I could listen in and after 15-20 (maybe not quite that obsessive...but close!) tries, I turned NPR back on. I ha...

What did you think of the call, Jeremy? Catherine tried to join from our office, but wasn't able to connect (I think they ran out of lines?)

Another "misstatement" or is this on purpose? -Health Care: The president claims doctors would rather cut off a diabetic's foot than treat the patient, since they get higher fees for amputations. Such a grossly irresponsible statement should not ...

Transparency? We were promised by Pres. Obama that this debate would take place in the open and even on CSPAN, but instead we have back-room agreements. -Candidate Obama- The pharmaceutical industry wrote into the prescription drug plan that Medi...

Hi Kate, that is interesting. I think if you'll check back a ways, I've never been one to say that illegals are a main cause of our problems, although it's a factor. I really feel that tort reform, combined with a real effort to clean up our govt....

Kate - just to be clear - the question was about illegal immigrants, not 'regular' immigrants. All immigrants with landed immigrant status have full health care. All refugees, including refugee claimants, have full health care. I think the point i...

Hey Jeremy, I haven't posted anything to "keep you honest" :) in a while so I thought I would send this along. Honestly, it's probably the least objectionable thing our President has done lately, but I know you had mentioned how happy you were that the lobbyists would be kicked out of the White House. It sounds like the NYT reporter actually has a sense of humor.

From the NYT last week-

The practicality of Mr. Obama’s pledge to change the ways of Washington is colliding once more with the reality of how money, influence and governance interact here. He repeatedly declared while campaigning last year that he would “not take a dime” from lobbyists or political action committees.

So to follow through with that promise, Mr. Obama is simply leaving the room.

The one with the two priests clasping arms is especially powerful.

Misinformation and Health Care Reform

So the rhetoric is escalating, the battle lines are clearly smudged and misinformation is flowing through the unmitigated servers of internet information. Sounds like Washington is having a debate.

And, unless you have been out backpacking in the hills of Nunavut, you know the debate is about Health Care Reform.

I read an email that was written to a coworker of mine from her insurance agent (we don't have a group plan through our employment, so it is a personal agent) who essentially said that… Continue

Christmas Meditation: No Jew or Greek

This is 1 of 4 meditations I gave for Pullman CRC's Christmas Service. I thought it appropriate for CRC Justice Seekers. It ponders Luke and Matthew's reasoning for choosing which story they told, that of the Shepherds or of the Wisemen and why that is significant and essentially finding Jesus was breaking down walls even at his birth.

Luke 2:16-20, Matthew 2:1-2, 9-12
There are some interesting things to the Christmas story that I have been pondering about in my own heart, things that we might… Continue

Rising Family Homelessness

USA Today had an article about the rise of Homeless Families in America titled Homeless Numbers 'Alarming.' When I first started working in the homeless services field only a few years ago, I was astounded by the numbers I was seeing. Then numbers were astounding not because of the quantity of homeless people but because of the demographics that the data was revealing. I no longer looked at homelessness in the same way b… Continue

A Consistent Ethic of Life and the Election

Since I joined CRC Justice seekers I have been caught up in the Election Arguments circulating throughout the website. In answer to these I give this entry if only to clarify what I feel about the current election and also what I am hearing a growing number of other evangelicals talk about in church, online and in the media. I am hearing a generation seeking justice, trying to understand how their faith connects to a mixed-up world and a desire to rethink taken for granted assumptions about our… Continue
