I wonder if you might suggest to your pastor that he (or she) do a sermon series on the four Ts of stewardship? (time, talent, treasure, trees). There's a Bible study from Faith Alive that covers those areas

The media and the Belhar

A coworker of mine heard on NPR that the Christian Reformed Church would be discussing gays and the Belhar at Synod. A quick Google search turned up an AP article that incorrectly labeled this week's RCA Synod as the CRC Synod. Nonetheless, I'm curious to see how this plays out. The article also closely links the issues of homosexuality with the Belhar. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I fear that the Belhar's call to justice will get lost in the controversy over the homosexual issue.

Maybe I'm too sensitive . . .

I know people get offended over everything these days. But before I read the commentaries, I did see this Burger King commercial and it just seemed . . . wrong. thoughts?

Burger King under fire for Whopper Virgins taste test challenge
Burger King is under fire for a new advertising campaign featuring "burger virgins", impoverished villagers in remote parts of the world, taking part in Whopper versus Big Mac taste tests.

I don't get it

In a recent article in The Banner “Marxism comes to the CRC,” Brian Polet asserts that the Belhar Confession is on theologically shaky ground and could “weaken the foundations on which the CRC has been built, along with alienating its core members.”

Shane Claiborne on NPR!

I listened to Speaking of Faith yesterday on NPR - what a great episode! Sometimes I am disturbed by the way "the church" engages in politics, and this discussion between Shane Claiborns, Chuck Colson, and Greg Boyd helped me think through why that is.

Yes, I do go to Trinity, in fact I am on the staff there, and think its a great place. Lots of neat things going on here - from community garden, to fair trade coffee, drinking out of ceramic mugs, stream clean up, and more. Our pastor, Gerry Koning, is also a member of CRC Justice Seekers, and a great proponent of creation stewardship. Come visit sometime.
