Ugh. That is a hard read. Like Crystle, I'm interested to know what's being done to combat this exploitation, and if there are ways to check if orphanages are run by reputable and legitimate groups. Thanks to Bob for shining a light on a troubling s…

I thought he explained really well a reality that many people don't know. What left me wondering at the end - is what then? If we shouldn't help orphanages, then what would he suggest from his vantage point?

Several of us are writing our last papers on the strengths/weaknesses of the Belhar and offering our opinions on the adoption of the confession for Bierma's Reformed Confessions class. It would be interesting to pool some quotes from all the various…

The staff at DMC (Diaconal Ministries Canada) took some time at their last staff meeting to read and reflect on the Belhar. Haven't heard of any congregations studying it, though.

Belhar in your congregation?

Curious which congregations are engaging with the Belhar confession, as Synod encouraged, and in what way. Sermon series? Sunday school classes? Guest speakers? What's happening that you're aware of in the CRCNA to wrestle with this important confession?

What DOES the Bible say about immigration?

Earlier in the week, our OSJ twitter feed posted this paper from the Center for Immigration Studies, which is the policy arm of NumbersUSA. Both CIS and NumbersUSA were founded by John Tanton, a known white supremacist, who also founded the Federation for American Immigration Reform (designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center).

Needless to say, their Biblical Perspective is not our perspective at OSJ.

Pastor's immersion experience into immigration

I'd love to be able to organize an experience like this for all CRC pastors -- what do you think? Would yours go?

Many thanks, Kate. Prayers are always appreciated as would be anything you hear about a Sales Rep. position in W. MI.

The woman next to me on my page here is Susan Drake Emmerich, who has done wonderful faith-based work to promote environmental stewardship in the Chesapeake Bay region. She lectured for us in the fall of 2007.

We have a meeting tommorrow night and I'll put that idea on the table. I'm concerned about our ability to become social networkers though I think given how social networking has become a tool for the younger members it is critical that we embrace it and integrate it onto how we function and interact.

Our friend Google. I was doing a search of "CRC human trafficking" and ta-da, this site was somewhere in the top 10 results.

I've shared this site with the other deacons as a start but this site has great potential if a) it is well organzied, b) has good content and c) an active community.

Hi Kate, Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I graduated last May. I'm currently teaching English in South Korea. It's been a crazy first week. My friend Linda and I have a month off during February and we would like to do some traveling in this area...do you know of any CRWRC organizations in Asia that we could volunteer at for a month? I don't know if you have those types of connections...but we are just brainstorming some ideas. Thanks Kate.
How is work at the CRC justice office? I left Justice Matters at Dordt a binder of information and told them they need to contact you because you have a lot of great resources for churches or college campuses.
I hope life is treating you well.

Hi Kate. Thanks for the info on the Green Grants! I have a question about that for you. I am really involved in Guelph Campus Ministries that is supported by several CRC churches in the area. Would we qualify as a "congregation" with the intention of carrying out some on campus initiatives (possibly some lighting retrofits)? Thanks!
