The Manufactured Financial Crisis

Introduction

Keith Oosthoek is a brother in the Reformed faith who has been a leader in the banking industry in Canada for almost four decades. We invited him to initiate a discussion on justiceseekers that could help us to have a dialog that is informed, educational, and charitable. He graciously accepted this invitation, and his essay follows (attachment). Says Keith, “I am a person with 38 years in the banking industry and my views are practical -- from a sinner who loves Jesus, but n… Continue

Does 'Cash for Clunkers' hurt poor people?

Catherine just posted a question over on the EcoJustice group, and it got me thinking. I don't know anything about cars, and even less about the Cash for Clunkers program, but after reading this article criticizing the destruction of perfectly drivable cars, I started to wonder what will… Continue

Green for Iran

I don't want to get into a political discussion of what's happening in Iran, but I am curious about the recent fad of turning social media icons green as a sign of support. (See how to do it here if you aren't familiar.) Many people in my Twitter feed have done this, and I'm starting to see it carried over into Facebook as well.

Is this a creative use of social media to raise awareness, or does it lull people… Continue

Meghan I'm willing to comment on Rob and Kristins talk here last month, but finding the time to say something more meaningful than 'it was good!' is my problem. I liked the use of slides for discussion, and loved the book table, but had to leave earlier than I wanted to get Grant to the train station... Since a big part of the solutions in my mind is eating close to home or shopping local, offering practical advice on that aspect was difficult for them...I also appreciated the opportunity to meet and network with like minded folks in the area...even tho I haven't initiated any followup contact myself...
Lastly--is this the best way to post my response? I'm still learning how to use this site...

Meghan: Thanks for the tip on the song contest. Great idea and yes I think I just might go for it.

Hope all is well. I just returned from Uganda and Kenya and seeing our children were back in school for the new term. We now have six in secondary school, all girls, and two in primary. God is good and his provisions continue to amaze my wife Sarah and I, as just enough for school fees is always there in time.
I also scouted some farm land to begin our income generation scheme for the home and clinic. Looks like we can get two acres to begin with as God leads.
We are praying to expand the small clinic too as demand continues to escalate and our nurse completes basic courses to qualify for mid-wife certification.
God is good and this is all to testify to his provision and glory!
Thanks again for the song contest lead.

Greetings Meghan-
Thanks for the comment. I am looking forward to the workshop as well. It is wonderful to learn of the growing interest there is in the topic of economic justice lately. Please make sure to introduce yourself on the 18th,
Shalom,

Morning, Meghan!

Forgive me if I've asked previously, but did I loan you my copy of Creation, I Care DVDs while I was in GR this past May? I can't find them and can't remember to whom I loaned them.

Thanks for checking! Amy

Hey Meghan,
I can't get access to GroupWise for some reason, but I can get online, so I thought I'd send you a message and let you know that I've arrived in KC. I don't have internet access at home yet (I'm at the library now) but will be standing by my phone tomorrow in case the Desk meeting is still on. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into email soon and with better access to the web so I can be in contact with you all. Have you left for Sea to Sea yet?

YOu asked me about the sermon on Micah 6:8, was it recorded.... I said yes, but I hadn't heard it yet. well, I STILL haven't listened to it!
But maybe if you tell me why you asked, it'll motivate me to either listen to it, or just bring it to y ou.
