Profile Information

Location:
I work in the Pacific Northwest and Arizona. We live in the woods.
Church/School/Organization:
Mars Hill Church
Justice issues I'm interested in:
1. Injustice against the most vulnerable - the least of us: Abortion.
2. Injustice against vulnerable people beginning with the least powerful - the disabled, older adults, children, and, depending on context and culture - women or men, girls or boys - wounded veterans, and Native North Americans.
3. Injustice enabled by those who - in the guise of helping vulnerable people- become part of the problem and a tool of their oppressors. This includes careerism, bloated and ineffective programs, unintended consequences, and entitlement giveaways to people asking nothing in return - giving something for nothing - thus robbing the recipients of dignity and perpetuating rather than solving social problems.

Thanks for the welcome!!! What did you teach at Evergreen? This is my first year there (transfer student) and I am actually enjoying it quite a bit. I've learned a lot, but it can be a lonely place as a Christian. I've found a few Christian friends there, and some good non-Christian friends too. Thanks!

I'm not on Facebook. I've actually been trying to avoid it - This one's been holding my attention enough ;-). Anyway you can post a picture of your painting on this one?

I am glad you were invited to join this group. A question......while there may have been a particular political bias, how do we all get beyond that? The kingdom of God has no political bias.

What I mean is......while we all look through a particular political lens, to me most of these issues we discuss shouldn't be political. Yes....we need the political process to properly address some of them, but how can we (on this site) address them in a wholistic manner without always descending into a conservative vs liberal, or us vs. them debate. (Not that debate isn't enjoyable or necessary...but it isn't always productive) Maybe it is possible. My hunch is that you'd have some good insight on how we might actually do it. There are some great minds on this site - how do we get to the next step? What do you think? Possible? Necessary?

I hear you on buying a newspaper. I like to keep up on community news, but I will probably drop our subscription to the GR Press after the election. I can no longer morally support the politically correct DNC talking points posing as journalism.

e.g.
Would the last honest reporter turn on the lights?

Thank You, Brother Rick Warren

By Mark Driscoll - from this link.

Rick Warren is a brother in Christ. Having spoken with him on the phone, spent time at his church, and shared dinner with him, I can assure you that he loves the Bible, loves Jesus, loves pastors, loves the church, and has a heart for the world. If you want to criticize him, of course you can. But remember, if you lived your life under the scrutiny that he does, you would likely be even easier to criti… Continue

Assisted suicide initiative passes

Wash. voters approve assisted suicide initiative

Voters approved Initiative 1000 on Tuesday, making Washington the second state to give terminally ill people the option of medically assisted suicide.

Opponents, including the Catholic church, said assisted suicide is a dangerous step that devalues human life. Critics also said the assisted suicide measure could exploit depressed or vulnerable people who worry they've become a burden on their families.… Continue

Does charity begin at home?

Many of us recall the answers Sen. B. Obama gave Rick Warren. When asked about his own shortcomings, Obama took the advice given to all professionals when walking into an interview and listed a shortcoming that would also indicate something to his advantage (e.g. my shortcoming is that I work too hard, etc.). Obama identified a “fundamental selfishness” in his youth that led to destructive behaviors. And, in keeping with the advice to turn it all into an advantage, Obama then expanded on his sta… Continue

Just Look: The picture on this page is an untouched photograph

"One day, please God, when the stranglehold on public opinion in the United States has been released by the extremists for whom abortion is the center of their political and moral life, our nation will, in my judgment, look back on what we have been doing to innocent human beings within their mothers as a crime no less heinous than what was approved by the Supreme Court in the "Dred Scott Case" in the 19th century, and no less heinous than what was perpetrated by Hitler and Stalin in the 20th. A Living Sancuary: Something to consider as you carefully and prayerfully discern the spirits of our time

The song playing in the background is a spiritual which was originally song to Jesus (you can find the rest of the words here):

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true. With thanksgiving, I'll be a living sanctuary for You.

Here's the updated version from the video:

"Love prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy tried and true. With thanksgiving, I'll be a living sanctuary for you."
