For more than 30 years, civil war has raged in northern Sri Lanka. This past May there was a dramatic increase in violence as the Sri Lankan government attempted to reclaim the last stronghold of the Tamil Tigers in the North. In May of 2009 the government declared victory; there was no victory, however, for the countless families who were uprooted from their homes as a result of the violence. CRWRC has been active in Sri Lanka since 2005 and, by working through local partner, was able to respond to the needs of the displaced families.
Five months later there are still 280,000 people living in Internally Displace Persons camps in Sri Lanka. These IDPs face a daily challenge to find food and clean water and their health is under constant threat from the poor sanitation in the camps.

While CRWRC continues to work in Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Campaign for Justice and Peace is calling for action! The conditions in these camps need to improve so that people can once again live with dignity. Moreover peace needs to be restored in Sri Lanka so that families no longer need to seek shelter in these camps but can return to their homes. Check out their
campaign and
take action.
